New Range Rover Evoque PHEV Engine Details Revealed
Land Rover is working on the second-gen Range Rover Evoque PHEV which will feature a new engine.
British automaker Land Rover is working on the new second-generation Range Rover Evoque PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle).
Autocar reports that the SUV will get a new three-cylinder petrol engine. The prototype model being tested is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol unit coupled to an electric motor.
The new powertrain offers reduced emissions, improved performance and can rely on electric power for limited range. The new Range Rover PHEV's lithium-ion battery pack will be powered by a 48V electric architecture which was showcased in the Evoque's mild hybrid Concept e in 2015.
Similar to the concept model, the new Evoque's electric motor is expected to double up as the engine's starter motor. Land Rover is tight-lipped about the timeframe for the introduction of the new Evoque.

Previously, Land Rover has revealed that all of its cars will feature an electrified variant starting from 2020. But reports suggest that the Range Rover Evoque PHEV could arrive a year before the deadline, that is 2019.
In 2019, Land Rover will also reveal the next-generation Evoque range which will be based on the larger platform with petrol and turbocharged engine options. The new engines will be tuned to deliver improved performance, reduced emissions and fuel economy.
The plug-in hybrid variant of the Evoque will be the third model in the Land Rover's PHEV lineup after the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport which will be launched this year. All the electrified models will be based on the petrol engine rather than the diesel engine found on the current Range Rover PHEV.
