The Land Rover Discovery is a full-size SUV with a 7-seater layout. The upcoming Discovery is the third-generation model, though there have been five versions since its introduction back in 1989.
The SUV is based on JLR's latest light full-size SUV architecture; the new-generation Discovery is expected to be more comfortable, lighter, faster and more capable than the previous model. The next-generation Discovery is 480kg lighter, and it sits on an aluminium monocoque chassis making the SUV stiffer and lighter compared to the previous generation.
The new Land Rover Discovery boasts a host of features such as the Intelligent Seat Fold technology which allows passengers to reconfigure the second- and the third-row seats with controls at the rear of the SUV, the central touchscreen as well as through a smartphone app part of the InControl Touch Pro Services.
Other features include the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, 14-speaker Meridian digital surround system, four 12V charging points among others.
Powering the new Land Rover Discovery is a supercharged petrol 3-litre V6 engine churning out 335bhp and 450Nm of torque. There is also a 3-litre six-cylinder diesel motor which produces 254bhp and 600Nm of torque. While the latter will be powering the Td6 variant, the former will power the Si6 variant.
Prices for the next-gen Discovery is expected to be in the range of Rs 1 crore and will rival the likes of Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and the Volvo XC90.
