New Formula E Car To Start Testing In October
The new Formula E car for 2018/19 season will be tested in October 2017. The car will feature a new battery which will last the entire race distance.
The new 2018/19 Formula E car will go through its first track test in October 2017. But the teams need to wait a bit longer for their first run in the new car.
For the 2018/19 season of the Formula E, the car will be built by Spark Racing Technologies. The new car draws power from a 54kWh McLaren Applied Technologies (MAT) battery. The battery will last the entire race distance, unlike the mid-race car swaps.
Spark will organise the tests in October which is behind schedule. FIA had planned to make the new car available for all the manufacturers by October 1, 2017.
The chassis crash test of the new car is scheduled for September 1, 2017. The first group test session, with all the teams, is set to take place in February 2018.
The significant change in the 2018/19 season car is the hike in the power figures. The new car produces 250kW compared to the 200kW of the current Formula E car. The new car weighs 930kg, 42kg heavier than the original figures.
Spark will also adapt new materials to the chassis. The car will feature 3D printed components to compensate for the battery weight. The battery packs are manufactured by US-based company Atieva.
