BMW Commences Production Of The Next-Generation 5 Series In India
The new BMW 5 Series comes to India as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and is the assembled at BMW's Chennai plant.
BMW India is gearing up to launch the new 5 Series sedan in India on June 29, 2017. The Bavarian company has begun the production of the sedan at its Chennai plant.

BMW dealerships have already begun accepting bookings for the new 5 Series sedan varying from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. Deliveries of the next-generation BMW 5 Series in India will start from July 2017.
The German luxury carmaker unveiled the next-generation 5 Series in 2016. The new 5 Series borrows its styling and features from the 7 Series sedan. The new 5 Series is bigger and lighter compared to the outgoing model.
There are several changes on the interiors as well. The new BMW 5 Series comes with gesture control, remote parking system, adaptive suspension and 4-zone climate control, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats.
Once launched in India, the BMW 5 Series will compete with the likes of the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar XF and the Volvo S90.
BMW is expected to power the new 5 Series with three engines: a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit developing 187bhp, which we'll see on the 520d, a 3.0-litre, in-line six oil burner producing 261bhp on the 530d and lastly, a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine churning out 249bhp on the 530i. All the engines will comes paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
