New 3D Radar System To Catch Traffic Offenders Automatically

Delhi Traffic Police is testing a new 3D radar system which is capable of catching traffic violators automatically. The cameras will capture the number plate and even the driver of the vehicle.

With the increase in vehicles in Delhi, the problem of traffic is getting out of hand and the traffic violations are increasing. Despite various awareness campaigns conducted by the Traffic Police, the response is disappointing.

One of the main reason for the increase in traffic violation is the fewer chance of getting caught. But not anymore, because TOI reports that Delhi Police will be testing new equipment. The system will automatically detect traffic violations and prosecute the violators.

The new system comprises of a 3D radar technology and non-intrusive sensors. The system is capable of capturing the movement of multiple vehicles at the same time.

At the location of the implementation of this technology, 12 high definition cameras will be installed. The cameras will read the number plates of the vehicles and also capture the speed of the vehicle.

The system can also detect other traffic violations such as signal jumping and improper parking. Delhi Police plans to instal the new system in 100 location of the city. The cameras will be linked to the existing traffic control rooms until the dedicated control room is built.

When the cameras detect and capture the traffic violator, a photograph is developed to determine the owner of the vehicle. A notice will be mailed to the owner along with the picture of the offence committed.

The new system will certainly help Traffic Police and ensures the smooth flow of traffic. Currently, the system is in the testing phase and depending on the data collected more locations will be added to this system.
