Mitsubishi On Reboot Mode; To Launch Outlander In India
The Mitsubishi Outlander is a 7-seater SUV powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine and will be imported to India.
Mitsubishi Motors entered India in 1998 through a joint venture with Hindustan Motors and manufactured both SUVs and sedans before its sales witnessed a downward trend.
The Japanese company made a comeback in the Indian market with the Pajero Sport in 2012. Next, the company introduced the Mitsubishi Montero facelift in 2016 but didn't find much success due to its steep pricing of Rs 71 lakh ex-showroom.
According to Autocar India, Mitsubishi is planning to launch the third-generation Outlander in the country. The SUV has been spotted at various dealerships around the country, increasing the speculation of an imminent launch.
The Outlander is not new to India, Mitsubishi had first introduced the SUV back in 2008 and followed it with a facelift in 2010. With diesel engine ruling the SUV segment at that time, the petrol powered Outlander found not many takers and had to be discontinued in 2013.
The India-bound Outlander is the third-generation model which made its debut in the International market in 2012. After five years, the Outlander will be launched in India.
The Mitsubishi Outlander will be launched in India and will be imported from Japan. The SUV will be available at 50 dealerships in India.
Since the third-generation was launched in 2012, the Outlander has already received its mid-cycle update. Up front, the Mitsubishi Outlander receives a very intricate grille design, which Mitsubishi calls ‘Dynamic Shield', providing the SUV with a lot of road presence.
And there is an abundance of chrome and brushed aluminium bits from the front to the rear giving the SUV a premium feel along with the 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Outlander might look similar to the Pajero Sport, but is much lower and is longer in dimensions.
Powering the Mitsubishi Outlander is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol unit which produces 166bhp and 225Nm of torque. The unit is paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV will also receive Mitsubishi's latest Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) AWD system with an Active Front Differential and selectable driving modes.
Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed the launch in India, though dealers have begun bookings for the Outlander and deliveries expected around September 2017. Prices for the Mitsubishi Outlander in India is expected to be in the range of Rs 29 lakh ex-showroom.
This puts the Outlander in the circle of Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming Jeep Compass as well as upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
