Mercedes S-Class Coupe & Cabriolet Facelift Revealed
Mercedes S-Class Coupe & Cabriolet Facelift revealed ahead of the 2017 Frankfurt motor Show
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has revealed the facelifted S-Class Coupe & Cabriolet ahead of their public debuts at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new flagship S-Class coupe & cabriolet in the Mercedes lineup get updated design along with the upgraded performance figures.\
The S-Class Coupe is available in four variants: S 450, S 560, AMG S 63 & AMG S 65 - while the Cabriolet variant only gets the final three variants (S 560, AMG S 63 & S 65). The base S 450 coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine that produces 362bhp & 500Nm of torque and has a 0-100kph sprint time of 5.5 seconds.
The S 560 replaces the old S 500 variant and uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine instead of the older and larger 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8. The engine cranks out 463bhp and 700Nm of torque. Both the S 560 Coupe and Cabriolet have identical sprint times of 4.6 seconds from 0-100kph.
The AMG S63 uses the same 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine but with power levels upgraded to 604bhp and 900Nm of torque. The AMG S 63 Coupe & Cabriolet sprint from 0-100kph in 3.5 seconds.
The range topping AMG S 65 remains unchanged with its 6-litre twin-turbo V12 cranking out 621bhp & 1,000Nm of torque. The S 65 is the only car in the new S Class Coupe & Cabriolet range that does not feature Merc's new 9-speed gearbox and instead uses the older 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission to deal with the extra torque on board.
The S 65 Coupe & Cabriolet models sprint from 0-100kph in 4.1 seconds. All models in the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe & Cabriolet ranges are electronically limited to a top speed of 250kph.
In terms of design, the AMG variants of the S-Class Coupe & Cabriolet ranges feature the 'Panamerica' grille with vertical slats which help in cooling down the engines. The regular models feature the usual chrome infused grille which is a staple of the Mercedes range. All variants sport larger air intakes, the brand new OLED tail lamps (made using 66 different OLED lights) and two new alloy wheel designs.
Inside, the Mercedes has added two 12.3-inch screens joined together under a single glass panel similar and a new steering wheel design. The display behind the steering wheel replaces the instrument binnacle and shows off all relevant information needed by the driver whereas the second display which is placed in the centre console acts as the infotainment unit which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The cruise control stalk has been replaced by controls on the new steering wheel and the new cars sport updated driver assistance systems first seen on the new S-Class sedan.
