Mercedes E220d LWB India Launch Date Revealed
The new entry-level diesel E-Class long wheelbase model for India is set to hit the country's streets in a fortnight's time.
German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will be launching the new E220d variant of the new long wheelbase E-Class on June 2, 2017. The new E220d will be the entry-level diesel E-Class model for India.
The new E220d will be a toned down version of the V6-powered E350d variant. The new E220d is expected to lose some of the creature comforts found on the E350d and will also sport a smaller engine.
Speaking of the engine, the new E220d is powered by an all-new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel powerplant that produces 191bhp and 400Nm of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Mercedes E220d is expected to be a few lakhs cheaper than the E350d. The E220d is expected to be priced at around Rs 60 - 62 lakh which is still quite a bit more expensive than the base E200 petrol model which currently retails for Rs 56 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
The new E-Class for India is a unique vehicle as it is the only right-hand-drive E-Class currently sold in the world. While it commands a premium over rivals like the upcoming BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6, the generous amount of legroom at the rear makes it a very appealing prospect for luxury car buyers who prefer to be chauffeured around.
