Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Maybach And AMG Facelift Revealed
Mercedes-Benz has facelifted the entire S-Class lineup with styling tweaks and more technology.
The facelifted Mercedes-Benz S-class introduces a new range of in-line 6-cylinder engines at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show.
The new S-Class features newly designed bumpers, new headlights and tail lights, and the front grille which is now standard in the lineup which was previously saved for the V12 models.
Customers also have more choice with the additional of two new 20-inch wheels, two new variant and three new interior upholstery offerings.
Inside the cabin, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets the latest version of the COMAND multimedia system along with a pair of 12.3-inch high-resolution displays married under a single-bonded glass panel and a new three-spoke steering wheel.
Powertrains for all four models is a new generation of Mercedes-Benz engines. The S450 is powered by a 3.0-litre bi-turbo V6 engine, while the S560 receives a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8, and the AMG S63 has a handbuilt 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8.
At the top-of-the-line is the Mercedes-AMG S65 featuring a 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 mill. For those looking for more luxury can choose two different Maybach models: S560 (4.0-litre bi-turbo V8) and S650 (6.0-litre bi-turbo V12).
The S450's power output comes in at 360bhp and 500Nm of torque, while the S560 churns out 460bhp and 700Nm of torque. Both models will be offered with optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive and feature a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
As for the AMG S63, it now produces 600bhp and 900Nm of torque, while the top-of-the-range S65 has 620bhp and 1000Nm of torque. The S63's engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, while the S65 received a 7-speed unit.
Power from the Maybach S560 is similar to the standard S560; however, the S650 Maybach model churns out 520bhp and 830Nm of torque from its 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12.
In addition to refreshing the S-Class is the new Intelligent Drive technology, drawing the S-Class closer to the future of autonomous driving. Features such as the Active Distance Assist Distronic and Active Steering Assist now provides more assistance for the driver.
In a first, the new S-Class feature is what the company calls Energising Comfort, an optional feature that combines various comfort systems in the vehicle together, such as climate control, ambient lighting, massage and fragrancing functions also allowing customers to configure a particular wellness setup to suit their current mood or needs.
You can select up to six Energising Comfort programs: Freshness, Warmth, Vitality, Joy, Comfort and Training. Each program works for 10 minutes and is reflected on the head unit with colour graphics and supported by suitable music.
Expect Mercedes-Benz India to bring in the updated S-class to the country shortly.
