Bewitching 2017 Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet Revealed

The Drop-top 2017 Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet will debut at the Geneva Motor Show and is available for the first time with all-wheel-drive.

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2017 E-Class Cabriolet ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

The 2017 E-Class Cabriolet sits on the Mercedes MRA platform and is larger than the car it replaces. The new E-Class Cabriolet is 4,826mm long, 1,860mm wide and stands 1,428mm tall and is 123mm longer, 74mm wider and 30mm taller than the previous-generation car.

The wheelbase has also expanded by 113mm to 2873mm while the front and rear tracks are also up by 67mm and 68mm respectively.

The increase in the wheelbase as well as the other dimensions also means more space on the inside with legroom up by 102mm to 866mm while headroom has increased by 15mm in the front and 6mm at the rear. Both shoulder and elbow room have increased as well.

The 2017 E-Class Cabriolet's body structure comprises of a new high-strength steel and cast aluminium. The fenders, bonnet and boot lid of the new E-Class Cabriolet are built from aluminium to help keep the weight down.

Aesthetically, the latest Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet maintains the lines and the body shape of its coupe sibling with the bulges on the bonnet and the grille sticking out slightly ahead of the full LED lights that flank it along with the sleek taillights at the rear.

Where the new E-Class Cabriolet differs from its coupe sibling is with its multi-layer fabric roof, which comes in four colours: brown, blue, red and black. The roof opens and closes automatically in 20 seconds even when the car is travelling at speeds up to 50km/h.

Inside, owners can opt between an 8.4-inch infotainment display or twin 12.3-inch screens one of which replaces the instrument cluster. Also present as options are Merc's Aircap draught-mitigating system and Airscarf neck heating systems for the front passengers.

Mercedes has stated that the all-new E-Class Cabriolet will come with multiple diesel and petrol engines at launch, which will work with the German firm's nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive versions will be available as well.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first-ever E-Class Cabriolet, Mercedes has announced a special 25th Anniversary Edition of the new car. The new 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet 25th Anniversary Edition is available with either a red or silver paint job along with a red roof, a beige and red interior and sits on 20-inch wheels.
