Mercedes Set To Unleash The 'Beast Of The Green Hell' In India This Month
Mercedes has revealed the India launch date for the AMG GTR And GT Roadster.
German luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz is set to unleash its fastest sports car in India. The Mercedes-AMG GT R along with the AMG GT Roadster will be launched in India on August 21. 2017.
The Mercedes AMG GT R is known as the 'Beast of the Green Hell' and is the most powerful car in AMG GT sports car lineup.
The AMG GT R broke the lap record for rear-wheel drive cars at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife race track (nicknamed the Green Hell by drivers) blitzing the 20.81km long German track in a lap time of 7 minutes and 10.92 seconds.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R is powered by AMG's potent 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 which sends 570bhp and 700Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R sprints from 0 - 100kph in 3.6 seconds and tops out at 316kph.

The AMG GT Roadster, on the other hand, is the entry-level convertible in Merc's AMG GT sports car lineup and kicks out 469bhp and 630Nm of torque from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 which rather surprisingly is 13bhp and 30Nm more than what its hardtop sibling produces.
The AMG GT Roadster sprints from 0-100kph in 4.0-seconds and has a top speed of 302.5kph. The AMG GT Roadster sports a 7-speed gearbox and features a three-layer fabric roof.
Mercedes is expected to price both new variants of the AMG GT northwards of Rs 2.5 crore.

Merc's decision to bring the AMG GT R and GT Roadster to India shows the growing importance of the country in the performance car scene.
While the AMG GT Roadster will cater to those prefer to pose to the world in their supercar, the AMG GT R will hopefully scare those same people with its Nurburgring tuned brutality.
