Maruti Suzuki Releases Road Safety Index — Is Your City The Safest?
The Maruti Suzuki Road Safety Index was collected across several categories by citizen views and ground level surveys.
India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India released a road safety index, covering eight cities including Delhi and Mumbai.
The road safety index was collected across several categories by citizen views and ground level surveys, rates cities across India on road safety on several parameters like road lighting, maintenance and infrastructure.
While Bengaluru as adjudged for safest roads, the national capital was rated for best quality roads, connectivity, road quality and road infrastructure. Mumbai was ranked on top for pedestrian rights, motor laws & traffic controls and differently-abled friendly.
The survey also revealed Kolkata has the best road lighting & maintenance and Chennai has best emergency services while Ahmedabad has best road cleanliness.
R S Kalsi, executive director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki said, "Road Safety is increasingly becoming a matter of national importance. As a leader in the automobile industry, Maruti Suzuki has been working on inculcating safe driving habits among people through our various driving training initiatives."
He added, "This initiative of city-wise Road Safety Index further strengthens our mission for safer roads. We are optimistic that the index will serve as a reference point for the stakeholders to identify and work in a systematic manner to improve road safety scenario in their respective cities."
The survey is a part of India Road Safety Mission (IRSM), a nation-wide drive by Maruti Suzuki in collaboration with Times Now television.
The purpose of the report is to set parameters which can become guidelines for Government Institutions, Corporates and NGOs to enhance road safety in the cities covered in the survey.
