Maruti Suzuki Might Introduce Ignis RS Soon In India
Ignis is sold through Maruti Suzuki’s exclusive Nexa dealerships, which also retails premium models like Baleno and S-Cross.
Maruti Suzuki launched its first compact crossover, the Ignis in India on January 13 and the manufacturer already bagged more than 6000 bookings for the new model. But now a report has emerged that the carmaker may soon introduce a sportier version of the Ignis, the Ignis RS.
As we reported, the automaker is planning to bring Baleno RS to the Nexa dealerships next month. The Ignis is based on the same platform as the Baleno, therefore, we can expect the RS model to hit the Indian market in the second quarter of this year after the launch of Baleno RS.
Ignis is sold through Maruti Suzuki's exclusive Nexa dealerships, which also retails premium models like Baleno and S-Cross. The Ignis RS will be equipped with the same 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine as the Baleno RS.
The Boosterjet engine is the first turbo-petrol motor from Maruti Suzuki. The engine will be detuned by the automaker to reduce the power output a little bit. The Boosterjet engine which will feature in the Baleno RS will produce 110bhp of power and 170Nm of torque.
When it comes to design, the Ignis RS will carry some sporty accents on the outside. The cosmetic changes might include sportier bumpers and side skirts. It will also feature the same U-shaped LED headlamps with DRLs as the top-of-the-line Alpha variant.
Inside, the Ignis RS will sport a tablet-like touchscreen infotainment system with Smart Play Linkage Display Audio (SLDA) remote app, Android auto and Apple CarPlay. The model will also get push button start/stop, keyless entry, steering mounted audio and phone controls, and some chrome embellishments.
The price range of the regular Ignis petrol variants starts from Rs 4.59 lakh to Rs 6.30 lakh, while the diesel trims from Rs 6.39 lakh to Rs 7.46 lakh. If launched, the RS version will be pricier than the regular petrol trims.
