Maruti Suzuki Reveals Its Electric Car Plans
Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki has revealed its electric car plans in the country.
The Government of India has an ambitious aim of having all-electric vehicles on the roads by next decade. Now, Maruti Suzuki revealed its electric car plans in the country.
Maruti Suzuki has stated that it will not hold back in the electric car segment in the country. Currently, Mahindra is the only automaker to offer electric vehicles in India.
Mahindra offers the e2O Plus and e-Verito in the electric car segment. Other manufacturers do offer hybrid vehicles, but they have no plans regarding the electric vehicles due to the implementation of new taxation policy.
Maruti Suzuki India Chairman, R C Bhargava said that the government's decision to promote the use of electric vehicles is a good policy. It will enhance the usage of EVs and will lead to a cleaner environment.

But in the meantime, the automaker will focus on increasing the fuel efficiency in the current models and introducing new technologies. Maruti Suzuki holds a market share of close to 50 percent in the Indian market.
The main hurdle for electric vehicles in India is the lack of infrastructure. There are not enough charging stations across the country which will make it tougher to use an electric vehicle.
