India's leading passenger vehicle manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has achieved 1 lakh Mild Hybrid vehicle sales in the Indian market.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki offers the Ciaz sedan and the Ertiga MPV with its Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology. The Ciaz SHVS was launched on September 1, 2015 and the Ertiga SHVS was introduced on October 16, 2015.

In the SHVS technology, the engine power is supplemented by an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and an advanced high capacity battery, which enable the car to store energy while braking or decelerating.

The two models from Maruti Suzuki also gets the benefit of government's FAME scheme, an incentive provided for electric and hybrid vehicles. Due to this, the sales figures of the Ciaz and Ertiga have improved.

Maruti Suzuki claims that the Ciaz SHVS will deliver a mileage of 28.09km/litre, which makes it the most fuel efficient car in India. The Ertiga SHVS can deliver a mileage of 24.52km/litre.

Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki, R S Kalsi said, "As we move towards hybrid and electric cars, we see this as a first important step in this space. Both the Ciaz SHVS and Ertiga SHVS are high on fuel efficiency, come with reduced running costs and lower levels of CO2 emission."

He added, "The response we have received for the SHVS-equipped Ciaz and Ertiga encourages us to continue to invest in new technologies that support the environment while benefiting the customer."
