The spy shot reveals the rear end of the Celerio Cross which features black plastic cladding on the rear bumper and the wheel arches. The new variant of the Celerio was also showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo as a concept model.
The spotted Celerio Cross is finished in a shade of orange and gets black painted alloy wheels. The new variant of the Celerio was spotted during a promotional ad shoot. No other details are available about the new variant.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki is facing fierce competition from the likes of Tata Tiago and wants to refresh the Celerio. So, the automaker has decided to give a Cross treatment to the hatchback.
The Celerio Cross is a butch variant of the hatchback with body cladding adding to the muscular look. The alloy wheels are finished in black. The front and the rear of the hatchback gets faux skid plates which enhances the rugged look.
There is no information regarding the ground clearance of the Celerio Cross. It will be a great move if Maruti Suzuki tweaks the suspension to increase the ride height which will be ideal for Indian road conditions.
The Celerio Cross is likely to draw power from the existing 1-litre three-cylinder K-Series petrol engine producing 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. The engine will be coupled to a 5-speed manual or an automated manual transmission.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the Celerio Cross in a few weeks for this year's festive season. The battle between the Tata Tiago and Celerio will heat up with the launch of the new variant of the hatchback.
