Is Baleno The New Best-Seller For Maruti Suzuki?
Maruti Baleno has achieved a significant milestone with sales of 200,000 units within two years.
When Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) launched its premium hatchback Baleno in India, models such as Hyundai Elite i20 and Volkswagen Polo were dominating the segment. But did Maruti's gamble in bringing the Baleno late to the Indian market pay off?
Going by the sales numbers that the Baleno is bringing to its manufacturer, the premium hatchback might be a reckoning in the Indian market.

Maruti has sold 200,000 units of the Baleno in just 20 months since its launch. With average sales of 10,000 units a month, the Baleno is challenging every other rival in the segment.
The Made-in-India Maruti Baleno has gained popularity not just in India but globally due its roomy interiors, styling and most of all its safety features. With standard fitment of dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and Apple CarPlay, Maruti's foray into the premium segment seems to have paid off.

Thanking customers on the occasion, R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki said "Baleno was developed keeping in mind the tastes and requirement of global customers. It has disrupted the premium hatchback segment by not only dominating it but also expanding it multi-fold."
He added, "While setting new benchmarks in design and technology, Baleno has received an unimaginable response in India as well as several international markets. We are very humbled with the success of Baleno. We thank all our customers for their support and patience despite huge waiting for delivery on Baleno."

Not just the premium segment, Maruti has even entered the high-performance segment with the launch of the Baleno RS, the sporty version of the Baleno. The Baleno RS boasts of Suzuki's 1.0-litre Booster Jet engine, performance enthusiasts, who only had the option of Volkswagen Polo, had the option of the Baleno RS to bring some excitement in their day-to-day driving.
Maruti is exporting the Baleno to over 100 countries and is the first car to be exported to Japan under the Government's "Make in India" mission. Other countries where the Baleno is being exported are Australia, New Zealand and several parts of Europe and Latin America.
