Mahindra Opens New Manufacturing Plant In Detroit, USA; To Produce Off-Road Vehicle
Mahindra has opened a new manufacturing plant in Detroit, USA to produce an off-road vehicles.
Mahindra & Mahindra has inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Detroit, USA. Mahindra has become the first Indian company to commence operations in Southeast Michigan in the past 25 years.
The North American HQ will be operated by Mahindra Automotive North America (MANA) and the new manufacturing facility is part of a $230 million investment which also includes a warehouse and logistic operations.
Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, Automotive Division EVP Rajan Wadhera and MANA President and CEO, Rick Haas inaugurated the new manufacturing facility. In total Mahindra has grown to 400,000 sq. ft. across three Detroit area facilities.
The new manufacturing plant will produce an off-road vehicle which is designed and engineered by MANA. Mahindra states that the new vehicle will be unique as compared to the currently available off-road vehicles in the market.

The first product in the USA will come under the off-highway category, the vehicles meant for a recreational purpose and commercial use but it cannot be driven on public roads. This kind of vehicles need to meet the safety and emission norms.
Anand Mahindra said, "This is an exciting day for Mahindra, our terrific employees and Detroit. I couldn't be prouder to be here to help open this new facility today. This building opening represents our company's growing presence in North America and locally in the Metro Detroit area where we have tripled our workforce during the past 18 months."
Apart from the manufacturing plant, Mahindra has been named as one of five vehicle manufacturers selected by the United State Postal Service (USPS) to produce prototype delivery trucks for testing and evaluation.

It is a proud moment for an Indian company to set up a manufacturing facility in the USA. Mahindra has grown as an automotive company and has expanded its reach to North America. But it is not sure whether the firm intends to enter the passenger vehicle segment in the USA. But for now, a off-road vehicle is in the cards.
