Made-in-India Toyota Etios Impresses In Crash Test Ratings In South Africa

Toyota Etios Receives 4-Star Rating From Global NCAP

Made-in-India Toyota Etios was evaluated by the Global NCAP safety watchdog by crash testing in the latest round of crash tests conducted under 'Safer Cars for Africa' initiative.

The Toyota Etios Liva scored an impressive 4-star rating in the crash test. The hatchback scored a 4-star rating in the frontal crash with speeds at 64kph.

The Toyota Etios Liva was declared as stable in the test and provided good overall protection for adult occupants in the car. The same Etios scored 3-stars in child occupant safety, where Toyota-recommended child seats were used.

The Toyota Etios model tested was the 2017 production which comes dual airbags as a standard feature. Other safety features include four-channel ABS, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, and front seatbelt pre-tensioners.

Global NCAP and AA South Africa (Automobile Association of South Africa) launched the Safer Cars for Africa on November 22, 2017, in Cape Town. The initiative is the first independent crash test evaluation of some of South Africa's most popular compact and small cars.

Another India-made car Datsun GO+ was tested as well, which failed miserably by scoring just one-star rating. The Datsun GO+ was rated unstable in the frontal crash as the steering wheel movement showed high compression to the chest of the driver dummy. In the child occupant safety ratings, the car scored two stars.

Other cars that were crash tested were Volkswagen Polo Vivo, Renault Sandero, and Chery QQ3. While the Polo and Sandero scored three stars in the test, the Chery QQ3 scored a miserable ‘zero' star rating.

The Toyota Etios sold in India was also crash tested under the 'Safer Cars For India' programme and the hatchback scored 4-star rating as well. This reflects that Toyota has been at the forefront in the safety aspects of their products be it made-in-India or in any other country.
