Lucid Air Alpha Electric Vehicle's First Speed Test Hits An Impressive Top Speed [Video]
The Lucid Air Prototype completed its first high-speed stability test at 217mp/h (350km/H).
Lucid Motors is teasing the all-electric Air Alpha sedan's performance with a prototype and new high-speed tests.
The Lucid Air Prototype completed its first high-speed stability test at 217mp/h (350km/H) at the Transportation Research Center test track in Ohio. The same as a Ferrari LaFerrari.
The Alpha Speed Car was picked from Lucid's fleet of prototype test vehicles for high-speed testing and was fitted with a roll cage and massive rear spoiler.
The company says the 350km/h top speed, achieved on a 7.5-mile (12km) oval track, was software limited. With this top speed, it makes the Air one of the fastest electric cars, considering production versions can achieve the same performance.
As per to Lucid's director of marketing, Zak Edson, the next step is to go back to the test facility and remove the speed limiter.
The Lucid Air boasts of an extensive list of impressive statistics. The top version will have 1,000bhp and a range of 400 miles (644km).
Lucid is receiving deposits of $2,500 per vehicle and plans to begin production with 255 "Launch Edition" models. The company anticipates building about 10,000 cars in the first year, grading up to around 50,000 per year after that.
