The First Turbocharged Lamborghini

The new Lamborghini Urus is powered by an all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which produces 641bhp which will be sent to all four wheels.

While the Volkswagen group does have a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 developed by Porsche, The engine in the Urus is a bespoke powerplant developed specifically for the Urus.

The new turbocharged engine also marks the first time in its 54-year history that Lamborghini will be ditching naturally aspirated engines.

Not Entirely Bespoke

While the engine on the upcoming Urus may be a bespoke Lamborghini unit, the platform on which the SUV is based is anything but. The new Urus is based on the VW group's modular MQB EVO platform that also underpins the Audi Q7, the Bentley Bentayga and the Porsche Cayenne.

It Will Be Fast

Lamborghini and fast are two words that go together like peas in a pod. Lamborghini is aiming for the SUV track record at the Nurburgring, which is currently held by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio with a lap time of 7:51.7.

Lamborghini also claims that Urus will have a top speed in excess of 300kph which would make it the fastest SUV in the world, a record currently held by the Bentley Bentayga.

Six Driving Modes - Six

The Huracan and the Aventador are both available with three driving modes - Strada (street), Sport and Corsa (Track).

However, the Urus has to go off road as well and to help it roar through the rough stuff, Lamborghini has fitted it with three more driving modes suited for off-roading.

The three off-roading modes - Sabbia (Sand), Terra (Gravel) and Neve (Snow) - which will allow it to handle any kind of terrain anywhere on the planet.

It Will Double The Lambos On the Road

Lamborghini will produce 1,000 units of the Urus in 2018 but it plans to expand that number to 3,500 a year. Considering the fact that Lamborghini's current output is 3,500 cars a year, the arrival of the Urus will ensure that the raging bull badge won't be something you see once in blue moon.
