Koenigsegg's To Reveal Regera Customer Cars At Geneva — Will It Rule The Hypercar World?
Koenigsegg will unveil the first example of the hybrid hypercar — Regera that will reach customers at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
Koenigsegg first showcased the Regera which had an innovative drivetrain back in the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Now, in 2017, the Swedish auto giant will reveal two of its customer examples of the hybrid hypercar - Regera at the same auto show.

The company has said that the Regerawill be limited to only 80 units in total, which will make it the highest number of Koenigsegg model till date. Koenigsegg is also in the process of upgrading its plant to manufacture more units per annum.

One of the Regera will get a paint job which will be a shade of green nostalgic of the classic British racing green. The interior will be finished in brown which will blend nicely with the exterior. On the other hand, the second car will receive a red and black paint job for both its interior and exterior.

The attention to detail is amazing on these cars, eg. - The paint job. The cars actually get a tint applied to the clear coat in such a way, that it allows the carbon fiber weave of the body panels to remain visible. Now, that is something amazing!

Mechanically, the Regera is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 5.0-liter V-8 engine. It claims to churn out around 1,500 bhp of power! the highest amongst any production car. This massive output can catapult the car from 0 to 300 km/h in just 10 seconds. And you can go all the way go up till 400 km/h (top speed).

One of the unique features of the Regera is its drivetrain, which does not have a conventional multi-gear transmission. Instead, Koenigsegg has come up with the - Direct Drive which connects the car's massive engine with the wheels via a single-speed reduction gear and hydraulic coupling system.

So, what this drivetrain does is, once you are at a sufficient speed, the coupling system locks up and spins the wheels in direct proportion to engine rpm. In result, you get smooth acceleration all the way to the car's top speed.

If you are at low speed, then, there is an electric drive system which does its duty. Three electric motors, one at each of the rear wheels and another mounted to the engine. Best part, the rear motors recover energy as well as support the engine by providing torque fill at low revs.
