Kia Motors has finally revealed some of its future plans for India, including details about the plant and what vehicles can be expected.
Kia Motors, a sister company to Hyundai has been exploring opportunities to enter the Indian market for a while now. The carmaker finally confirmed its entry and had revealed some of its plans to Autocar India.

Kia will build a production facility in Andhra Pradesh with a capacity to build 3,00,000 units a year. The South Korean carmaker intends to invest Rs 7050 crore for the plant which will be spread over an area of 536 acres.

Production of Kia vehicles in the new plant will begin during the second half of 2019 and sales will start later that year. Kia Motors has specific plans for the Indian market and will make compact sedans and SUVs for India.

Kia Motors will be different compared to Hyundai and aims at having a unique identity in the country. The carmaker will also aim at achieving complete localisation in India, similar to Hyundai, but will start with 40 percent localisation.

Some vehicles manufactured by Kia share the same platform from Hyundai, and to keep costs in check; the company will look at sharing powertrains. Kia intends to launch a mainstream model, a premium vehicle, and a brand building product.

Kia could launch the Sportage SUV, since the vehicle has been spotted on Indian roads a few times, and along with that, the carmaker could launch the Picanto and Rio. Kia could also launch the Stinger as the brand building product, which is a sports sedan that has a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 under the hood that makes 370bhp.
