MLA’s Brand New Luxury SUV Accidentally Filled With The Wrong Fuel — The Easiest Mistake To Make?

Local media channel Daiji World reported that Mangalore MLA, Mohiuddin Bava is the first Indian to buy the recently launched Volvo XC 90 T9 Excellence. The SUV costs Rs 1.65 crore.

On March 27, 2017, Bava's son drove the SUV to the fuel station. But the attendant filled diesel into the petrol hybrid vehicle. As most of the SUVs in India run on diesel, the attendant might have committed this blunder.

Reacting to this incident, Bava said, "As I was in Bengaluru for the Assembly session, my son had taken the new car to the fuel station."

He added, "Though my son had instructed him (the attendant) clearly to fill petrol, when my son went to pay, he found that the staff had filled diesel." The attendant apologised for the mistake, but the owner has to pay a hefty price for the blunder.

According to experts, the damage can be minimal if the mistake is spotted in the fuel station itself. The problem can be rectified by draining the wrong fuel from the fuel tank.

But, if the driver turns the ignition on, the damage can be extensive. The repair costs can be very high. A petrol engine running on diesel fuel can break the fuel injection pump.

Apart from that, the unburnt diesel can cause a lot of heat and will result in overheating of the catalyst. As per reports, the luxury SUV was bought from a Bangalore showroom, and the vehicle is sent back to the dealer to clean the fuel tank.
