Jeep has the option to offer the Compass with the 1.6-litre diesel unit which could make the SUV cheaper by up to Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000, making the Compass even more attractive in the Indian market.
The 1.6-litre Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine does its duty in the current Maruti S-Cross which churns out 120bhp and 320Nm of torque. The engine is not a bad choice for Jeep to offer it in the Compass as this could potentially eat into sales of its competitors.
Currently, the Jeep Compass is offered with both petrol and diesel engines: a 1.4-litre petrol unit and 2.0-litre diesel unit. While the petrol engine produces 160bhp and 250Nm of torque, the diesel unit develops 170bhp and 350Nm of torque.
The petrol engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the diesel unit comes married to a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
The 1.6-litre diesel unit for the Jeep Compass will make the SUV even more popular in the Indian market. The decision to launch a lower spec Jeep Compass will help boost the sales of the Compass in India.
