Jaguar Collaborate With Lyft To Develop Self-Driving Technology
Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover has collaborated with ride-hailing company Lyft to develop autonomous driving technology.
British automaker Jaguar Land Rover has partnered with Lyft, the second largest US ride-hailing company, to develop self-driving taxis.
Jaguar Land Rover stated that it's working with Lyft to develop an autonomous driving technology. The company will also rent vehicles to Lyft.
Tata-Motors-owned company has invested 25 million dollars as part of its investment round which ended in April 2017. In recent times, several automakers are betting high on the ride-hailing companies.
Last month, Lyft announced its collaboration with Alphabet Inc.'s Waymo. Wayne has sued Waymo over self-driving technology.
Apart from Jaguar and Waymo, Lyft also works with American auto major General Motors. Both the companies are working on autonomous driving projects.
Co-Founder and President of Lyft, John Zimmer said, "Different partners have different skill sets, and this is such a big opportunity. Broadly speaking, it's going to play out over the next five to ten years, and it's critical that we have multiple partners in various spaces and geographies."
On the other hand, Uber has collaborated with the likes of Daimler AG and Volvo Cars to develop a self-driving technology. The ride-hailing company has invested heavily in autonomous technology developed in-house.
Currently, there is not much clarity on the autonomous driving technology. But in future, the ride-hailing companies might buy their autonomous cars and share profit with self-driving technology firms.
