Jaguar Launches A New 296bhp Petrol Engine In The XE, XF and F-Pace
Jaguar has launched a 20-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine with 296bhp and 400Nm, which would be used in the XE, XF and F-Pace.
Jaguar's latest 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine has now been made available on almost all cars in Jaguar's product portfolio. The engine first made its debut in the 4-cylinder base variant of the Jaguar F-Type sports car, which was revealed at the New York Motor Show earlier this year, and has now found its place under the hood of the Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace.
The new 2.0-litre Ingenium engine produces 296bhp and 400Nm. What Jaguar has done to achieve this power output is not known at the moment, but we suspect that they have increased the boost pressure on the twin-scroll turbocharger and tweaked the ECU amongst other things.
In February this year, Jaguar had launched the 2.0-litre petrol engine with two variations in power output - 197bhp and 247bhp. This 2.0-litre engine will sit above the other two engines. The launch of this engine now gives Jaguar an advantage in terms of variety and flexibility, as it allows customers to choose their cars with different power outputs, using the same basic engine.
The 296bhp and 400Nm produced by the new engine is capable of powering the Jaguar F-Pace from 0-100 km/h in 6 seconds, the XF in 5.8 seconds and the XE in 5.5 seconds. That is pretty brisk acceleration and puts the XF and XE in a unique place in the market. These two cars, when equipped with the new engine have more performance than any of its competitors.
Jaguar will be launching the new engines in the Indian market later this year. Whether it would make its way under the hood of other cars in the Jaguar Land Rover family, is something that we would have to wait and watch.
