Jaguar’s Cheapest F-TYPE Is A Four Cylinder Turbo — Downsizing Done Right?
Jaguar’s cheapest F-Type comes with a 4-cylinder turbo. More about the four-cylinder Jaguar's 2.0L Ingenium engine here.
When you think about a flagship Jaguar, the first thing that comes to your mind will be the F-TYPE. Then comes its noise - A mad V8 or a harmonious V6. But now, there's one more coming.
Jaguar's cheapest F-TYPE comes with four cylinders only. If you are going to ask 'Why?', there's only one answer - Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster. The 718 models proved that if the chassis is good enough, people wouldn't mind engine-downsizing.

The ‘Ingenium' 2-litre twin-scroll single turbocharged four-cylinder petrol puts out 297bhp @ 5500rpm and 400Nm @ 4500rpm. The transmission is an 8-speed Quickshift ZF Auto. This, combining with almost 52kgs of weight saving, pushes the cars from 0-100kmph in 5.4 seconds, ultimately reaching a top speed of 250kmph.

Jaguar claims that the intake and exhaust notes have been tuned meticulously to give a typical ‘F-TYPE' note. Also, fuel consumption is a good 16 percent less than their 335bhp 3-litre V6.

The cheapest Jaguar F-TYPE comes loaded with driver-assistance systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Speed Limiter and Lane Keep Assist.

Like all Jaguars, the F-TYPE too has an all-Aluminium chassis. The four-cylinder variant has been offered the best possible ride-quality with the help of some SVR inputs. In addition to this, the car gets Torque-Vectoring by braking.

The Jaguar F-TYPE four-cylinder is currently on sale outside India, and we expect it to arrive here by mid-2018. At almost around Rs 65 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi), the F-TYPE could give a tough competition to the successful Ford Mustang GT in India.

DriveSpark Thinks!
Though the practice of downsizing is a bit disappointing for us car-enthusiasts, things are okay with the F-TYPE, as Jaguar will still be selling the V6 and V8 variants in addition to the four-cylinder. Also, it is to be understood that a proper Driver's car needn't give outright performance figures. It just has to be fun!
