Indian Customers Prefer SUVs Over Other Segment
The SUV segement in the Indian market is growing stronger form the past few years. With the introduction of more affordable models, SUV segment outpaced the other segments in the country.
The sports utility vehicle segment in India is getting stronger from the past few years. One out of every four cars sold in India is an off-roading vehicle.
The customers are attracted towards the SUV segment because of the high ground clearance, aggressive styling and powerful engine. The sales of SUV has more than doubled over the last five years.
The SUV segment has outpaced the other segments such as compact cars and mini sedans in the Indian car market.
According to manufacturer's, rapidly changing lifestyle, increased inter-city travels and introduction of more budget-friendly models have led to this spike in sales of SUVs.
Senior VP (Sales and Marketing) at Hyundai India, Rakesh Srivastava said, "It is a disruptive segment, and it is only going to grow bigger and stronger. The SUV category is attracting buyers even from sedans and MPVs."
As per the experts the higher stance and bad road conditions also play a major role in this changing trend. And the SUVs are getting more affordable by the introduction of compact SUVs.
In this case, Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza was a huge success in the Indian market. It witnessed sales of 80,000 units in just nine months since its launch. Even though the Brezza is not a 4x4 off-roader, its practicality falls in its favour.
The trend towards SUV is not confined to the affordable category, but the luxury SUVs are also selling like hot cakes. Mercedes Benz GLE and BMW X1 has seen a strong demand in the Indian market.
