Not A Single Petrol Or Diesel Car Should Be Sold In The Country — Piyush Goyal
India will have no petrol or diesel cars sold by the 2030, according to Piyush Goyal, the Power Minister.
That's exactly what the Power Minister said, revealing India's long term goal. According to the minister, India is looking at having an all-electric car fleet by the year 2030.
Speaking during the CII annual session 2017, the Minister said, "The idea is that by 2030, not a single petrol or diesel car should be sold in the country." Goyal says that the government can initially help the electric car industry until its stable.
Goyal picked the example of Maruti Suzuki in India. He said that the government initially supported the carmaker, which eventually helped the company and the automotive industry grow in India.
The Power Minister said that the Ministry of Heavy Industries and NITI Aayog are working towards the promotion of electric vehicles. He also said that people would prefer buying electric vehicles when they become cost effective.
