India Not Ready For Electric Cars — Honda CEO, Yoichiro Ueno
Honda Cars India CEO, Yoichiro Ueno stated that India is not yet ready for the electric vehicles due to lack of infrastructure.
The Indian government is striving hard to shift to electric vehicles, and it aims to have all electric vehicles by the year 2030.
But Honda Cars India has stated that the country is not yet ready for the electric vehicles. The reason is the lack of infrastructure and the EVs in the country are expensive compared to the conventional cars.

President and CEO of Honda Cars India, Yoichiro Ueno said that the company is developing electric vehicles. But the mass implementation of such cars in India is not possible now citing the lack of infrastructure and affordability issues.

Ueno said, "Honda is developing electric cars. However, we believe it is too early for India to talk about electric vehicles. One thing is infrastructure. And secondly the car price will be more than double."

He added, "Indian is so price sensitive. So it looks difficult (for electric cars) and also the development of infrastructure in a country as large as India will take a lot of time."

Previously, Indian Power Minister Piyush Goyal stated that government plans to have an all-electric fleet of vehicles by 2030. The move will lower the fuel bills and cost of running of the cars.

Honda recently announced that electric vehicles would account for two-third of its global sales. The company managed to sell nearly 1.6 lakh vehicles last year and aiming to grow over 8 percent in 2017.

Ueno further said, "The automobile industry is expected to grow at 7 to 8 per cent. We also expect to grow at the same rate on the back of new launches such as New City and WR-V."
