Hyundai Reveals All-Electric Bus In Korea
South Korean automaker Hyundai has unveiled an all-electric 'Elec City' passenger bus in Korea.
South Korean automaker Hyundai has revealed an all-electric bus in Korea. It's the second attempt from the company to create an electric bus.
Previously in 2010 Hyundai revealed an electric bus, but it never made it to production. Now the company has unveiled the 'Elec City' bus at the Hyundai Truck & Bus Mega Fair.
Hyundai aims to commence the production and sales of the electric bus in 2018. The 'Elec City' electric bus is equipped with a 256 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery with a range of 290km.
The power is delivered to the wheels through a 240 kW electric motor. The bus can be fully charged in just 67 minutes through the fast charging feature.
Hyundai states that the 'Elec City' bus can cut down the fuel costs to one-third of a conventional bus. The bus is also equipped with automatic temperature control system to prevent battery overcharging.
In a statement, Hyundai said, "Elec City provides a glimpse into the future of the public transportation. The bus demonstrates the suitability of Hyundai Motor's pioneering fully-electric powertrain for commercial application."
The statement further read, "On the road, Elec City boasts best-in-class driving range. With a 256kwh lithium-ion polymer battery, the bus can drive 290km on a single charge. Furthermore, it features a variety of safety- and human-centered facilities, such as Around View Monitoring and a Full Color Digital Cluster."
