Hyundai N AWD System And Paddle Shift Transmission In The Works
South Korean automaker Hyundai’s performance brand, the ‘N’ recently unveiled the i30 N hot hatchback.
South Korean automaker Hyundai's performance brand, the 'N' recently unveiled the i30 N hot hatchback. It is a front-wheel-drive car churning out 271bhp from its 2-litre turbocharged engine.
Speaking to Top Gear, Hyundai N boss Albert Biermann revealed that the automaker is working on all-wheel-drive system and paddle shift transmission.
Biermann said that Hyundai has been testing the four-wheel-drive system. But Hyundai has no plans to launch an N car with all-wheel-drive system, as the company is just starting with its performance vehicles.
According to Biermann, without a high amount of power, there is no need for an all-wheel-drive system. Hyundai N is also developing a paddle shift gearbox and will be offered in the future products of the N division.
With the all-wheel-drive system and paddle shift gearbox, the N branded Hyundai cars will be appealing to the performance car enthusiasts. The Hyundai i30 N will face fierce competition from the likes of Ford Focus RS and Volkswagen Golf R which comes with the all-wheel-drive system.
DriveSpark Thinks!
Hyundai's N division will produce performance cars by taking inputs from its motorsports operations. So, developing an all-wheel-drive system and paddle shift gearbox should not be difficult. The i20 Coupe WRC already uses both the techs.
