Hyundai Kona Official Images Reveal Exterior Design
The Hyundai Kona official images of Kona SUV resembles other Hyundai cars on sale internationally; shares the platform with the i20.
Hyundai is getting ready to launch its newest crossover Kona globally in June 2017.
The South Korean carmaker's official images of the Kona reveals the exterior design of the crossover SUV. The Kona will slot below the Tucson in developed markets and will share its platform with the i20 hatchback.

From the official images, the Kona is quite different from the usual Hyundai range, though it does have few 'Hyundai' elements such as the trapezoidal grille, and the two-piece horizontal tail lamps.

The Hyundai Kona will rival the likes of Nissan Juke in global markets and features a similar funky style as the Juke. The front headlight is split, with slim high-set LED units under the lip of the bonnet and large projector units deep down the front bumper.

The side profile of the Kona has a coupe-like profile with a receding roofline finishing with an integrated spoiler on the tailgate. Along with the large squared-up wheel arches with thick plastic cladding, prominent creases are running down the doors as well.
The SUV will be available in dual-tone colours, with the roof and the A and B pillar finished in black.

As for the rear profile, the taillight is split complimenting the design language in the front. The slim brake lights are located on the tailgate, and the turn indicators located lower down in prominent inserts on the rear bumper. Complimenting the crossover look, there is plenty of body cladding, faux skid plates and black-finished roof rails.

The Hyundai Kona is expected to powered by the similar units from the recently-unveiled i30 hatchback sold globally. Hence, the powertrains might include a 1.0-litre and a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, alongside a 1.6-litre diesel engine.

Hyundai claims the Kona to be a 'true SUV' indicating that it could be offered with the option of a four-wheel-drive system.
As far as India is concerned, the company is planning to launch new and updated models ranging from hatchbacks to SUVs. However, the Kona is not part of the plan, and Hyundai is yet to comment on an India launch of the Kona crossover.
