Honda CR-V Diesel Version India Launch Details Revealed — Here's All You Need To Know
Honda CR-V diesel version India launch in 2018.
Honda has begun working on launching as many as six models in India in the next three years. The most significant launch is the Honda CR-V diesel SUV, which the carmaker lacked in its product lineup for India.
Speaking to Autocar India, Honda India Yoichiro Ueno said that the 2018 Honda CR-V would be launched in India with diesel powerplant under its hood in 2018.
When Honda launched the CR-V in India back in 2003 as an import, the CR-V went on to become of the most popular SUV in India. The company later went on to locally assemble the vehicle in 2013 due to its increasing popularity in the country.
However, the Honda CR-V lost its charm as it did not have the choice of a diesel engine and was available only as a petrol model. With its competitors offering several models with a diesel engine, the CR-V went into oblivion despite being one of the best-selling vehicles in the world.

That's going to change with Honda confirming to launch the diesel version of the Honda CR-V to undercut its rivals. Under the hood, the Honda CR-V diesel version will be powered by a 1.6-litre twin-turbo unit producing 157bhp @ 4,000rpm and 350Nm of torque @ 2,000rpm. The engine will come mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

As for the Honda CR-V diesel price, the company will manufacture the engine locally to keep the costs competitive. Also, the new Honda CR-V diesel version will be a 7-seater SUV and will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.
The Honda CR-V diesel for India will be an all-new vehicle and not solely a facelift model. Along with the diesel version, the petrol Honda CR-V will also be on offer. The new CR-V petrol will be equipped with a 2.4-litre engine, and all-wheel drive is likely to offer, while it remains to be seen if Honda will provide it in the diesel model as well.
DriveSpark Thinks!
Honda Cars India has changed tactics and moved towards premium vehicles. The only missing puzzle in the Honda CR-V was the diesel version, which the Japanese carmaker will offer in 2018. This should help the CR-V gain more traction and eventually gain back its popularity in the Indian market.
