Honda Civic Type R Smashes Nurburgring FWD Lap Record — Reclaims Ring Crown
The Honda Civic Type R has smashed the lap record for front-wheel-drive cars at Germany's infamous Nurburgring race track.
The Honda Civic Type R has taken back the lap record for front-wheel-drive cars at the Nurburgring race track.

The Civic Type-R clocked a time of 7:43:8 around the infamous German race track smashing the lap time of 7:47.19 set by the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S last year.

The lap record was set by a development car fitted that with a roll cage and Honda claims that it is representative of what is achievable with the production model which will go on sale later this year.

The Honda Civic Type R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 316bhp and 400Nm of torque which is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The current overall lap record for production cars at the Nurburgring is the Lamborghini Huracan Performante which lapped the ring in 6:52.01. The record for rear-wheel-drive production cars is held by Mercedes' Beast of The Green Hell, the AMG GT R which clocked a time of 7:10.9.
