Honda City Is The Most Popular Sedan In India — Here’s Why
Honda India has announced that the City sedan has achieved a new sales milestone in the country.
Japanese automaker Honda's best-selling premium sedan, the City has achieved a new sales milestone in India. The company has announced that it has sold 7 lakh units of the mid-size sedan in the country.
With the 7 lakh sales milestone, India has become the largest market for the Honda City and accounts for over 25 percent of the car's sale around the world.
Honda commenced its India campaign with the City sedan in 1998. And since then the City has been the best-selling product for the company. Currently, the mid-size sedan is in its fourth-generation and continue to drive sales with over 2.7 lakh units sold.
In 2017, Honda launched the refreshed City with cosmetic changes and additional features such as 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic LED headlamps, fog lamps, LED daytime running lamps and LED inserts for the tail lamps.

The top-spec ZX variant of the City is also equipped with rain sensing wipers, six airbags, boot lid spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels. Powering the new City is the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox.
Recently, India also became the largest market for Honda in Asia by overtaking Indonesia. The Japanese carmaker also has six new products in the pipeline which will be introduced in the next three years. The fifth-generation City is also one of them, and it is expected to come with a diesel engine and a hybrid variant.
President and CEO of Honda India, Yoichiro Ueno said, "Honda City is our bestseller model in India and the only premium sedan to achieve cumulative sales of 7 lakh units in the country. With a strong legacy of four generations, the City brand has evolved with the changing tastes and aspirations of our customers. We thank all our City customers for their patronage of the brand."
