Chevrolet In Talks With Mahindra To Provide After Sales Service Support
GM in talks with Mahindra to provide after sales service support for existing customers.
General Motors announced plans to stop selling vehicles in India last week, and it came as a shocker to its existing customers.
The existing customers were apprehensive about the after sales service support despite GM assuring that it will honour all warranties and provide after-sales support.
As per ET, GM is in talks with Mahindra to provide after sales service support for its existing customers as per a senior industry executive. However, Mahindra declined to comment on the development.
"They (GM) have commenced discussions with Mahindra. They are exploring options to provide after sales support to customers in India through a third party," the executive told ET.
GM's India spokesperson said the company wasn't in discussion with any third party for a takeover of the Chevrolet service network. "We have a strong network of Chevrolet dealers with staff well-trained to take care of the needs of our customers. We are working with our existing Chevrolet dealers to have them continue as authorised service outlets and continue to provide service to our customers," the spokesperson said.
After the American automaker failed to find a foothold in the Indian auto industry, where it entered almost two decades ago and sell vehicles with Chevrolet badge, it has decided to stop selling cars in India.
The company will continue to manufacture vehicles using its Talegaon plant in Maharashtra to export cars to other markets.
While making the announcement of stopping sales of cars in India, GM had assured that it would honour all warranties and provide after-sales support to customers and was in talks with dealers on a transition plan. GM currently has 150 dealerships operational in India.
Other sources said that GM had talks with Mahindra First Choice Wheels for after sales service support about a year back. "But an agreement was not implemented at the time. There can be a reconsideration now," this person added.
