Future Porsches To Get Mark Webber Track Mode — The Ultimate Driving Mode?

So, imagine it's 2020, and you own a latest Porsche model, which comes with handy autonomous driving technology. You go to a track to unleash your beast and test your driving skill, but realize that you're not fast enough. Well, Mark Webber will show you how it's done.

The technology will allow the driver to experience a lap of a race track as though Mark Webber was at the wheel. All you need to do is keep calm and don't touch the pedals and steering wheel.

At the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume nominated Porsche ambassador and World Endurance Champion Webber as the perfect driver to set reference laps for this handy autonomous technology.

"We are thinking at Porsche that when you go on a race-track, it's an opportunity to use an app where, for example, Mark Webber drives you on the track, and you see how to brake, where to accelerate, the perfect line to cross the track," Blume said. "Afterwards you can drive by yourself, match it and learn: ‘Mark Webber brakes here, accelerates there."

"At the end, you can match it with your driving abilities. You might say at the end, ‘oh, Mark Webber is 10 seconds faster than me - why?'. Then you can go into details: later braking, accelerating, better racing line," Blume said.

"That's a very typical app for autonomous driving - it can make you a better driver, it's a safe learning system, and I think these options have a very good worth for our customers," he said.

He added, "You're sitting there, in the car, and the car is driving for you - like Mark Webber. That might be a very important option: but the most important thing for Porsche drivers is always to drive."
