Formula One Comes Up With Another Cockpit Safety Idea —Will It Shield The Drivers?
Formula One is quickly approaching the deadline to implement the halo cockpit protection system. Now F1 has proposed another idea to the drivers.
World's popular racing series Formula One is fast approaching its deadline to implement the halo cockpit protection system by 2018. And now Formula One is back with another idea.

The halo cockpit protection system protects the driver from getting hit by flying debris or any other object in case of a crash. At the Chinese GP, the drivers were shown an outline for ‘the Shield' - a new cockpit protection solution.

The sketch of the new cockpit protection system has not been shared publicly. It is said that the shield is similar to RedBull's aero screen, but with a less steep windscreen.

Formula One drivers raised several concerns about the shield. The issues reported were the visibility, lower angle of the shield, aerodynamic concerns and strength.

Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg criticised that the shield will not protect against heavier debris as the structure of the shield is flimsy. The other problem with this system is, it has not been tested yet.

Formula One has a deadline of 2018, to come to a conclusion on what kind of protection system to be used. But F1 is still coming up with half-baked ideas that no one likes.
