Ford India Topples Hyundai To Become Country's Largest Exporter
Ford India exported 17,904 units in December 2016 registering an increase of 262.36 percent when compared to the same month in 2015.
Ford India has become the country's largest exporter of cars and SUVs and has toppled Hyundai from its position, who has been the leader in passenger vehicle exports.
Ford India exported 17,904 units for the month of December 2016, registering anincrease of 262.36 percent when compared to December 2015 when the company sold 4,941 units. Hyundai exported 17,104 units in the last month of 2016 compared to 22,273 units in December 2015, resultingin thedecline in sales 23.19 percent.
Ford India started exported its hatchback Figo aka KA+ to European market mid-2016. Currently, the company exports to 50 countries from India.
Ford's exported Figo and Aspire models of 11,630 units in December 2016 compared to 1,751 units in the same month in 2015.
On the other hand, Hyundai's exports fell and its best-sellers i10, i20, Grand i10, Xcent and Getz declined in exports. The South Korean company exported 11,031 units in December 2016, while it sold 14,678 units in December 2015.
Anurag Mehrotra, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales, and Service, Ford India said that Ford is proud to be making in India, for India and the world.
He added that they continue to stay committed to position India as a centre of manufacturing excellence with products exported to more than 50 markets across the globe, including parts of ASEAN, Europe, Middle-East and Africa among others.
Ford invested $1 billion in 2015 on the Sanand plant with an aim to grow from India in the next five years. The plant is spread across 460 acres and has the annual capacity of 2.4 lakh vehicles and 2.7 lakh engines which employmore than 2,500 workmen.
India continues to be an exciting market to manufacture and export cars where a lot of car manufacturers who are not able to do well in the domestic market are looking to grow their overseas market leveraging India's low-cost labour, infrastructure, and electricity.
