Force India Formula One Team Is Looking For A Name Change
Vijay Mallya-owned Force India Formula One team is planning for a name change to attract more Indian sponsors.
Force India is considering a name change to give an 'international flavour' to the Formula One team. This was stated by team boss Vijay Mallya.
The reason behind this is to make the team more attractive for the sponsors. So, Force India is planning to rebrand the team with an all-new name.
Previously, the Silverstone-based team was known as Jordan, Midland and Spyker. In 2008 Mallya purchased the team and named it as Force India. The team has progressed well in the championship since its rebranding.
Force India finished fourth in the Constructors championship in 2016. And in the 2017 Formula One season, the team holds the same position. The team has also added a new sponsor, the BWT which also changed the livery of the car.
Mallya said, "There are some people who believe the current name Force India is restrictive psychologically. I'm considering along with the other shareholders what steps to take but it's a major decision and one that is not going to be taken in a hurry without due consideration."
