Formula One Bosses Aiming For More Than 21 Races From 2019
Formula One bosses are looking for more than 21 races in a calendar from 2019. F1 Marketing Chief, Sean Bratches confirmed the development.
Formula One bosses are aiming for a race calendar with more than 19 races from 2019. F1 Marketing Chief, Sean Bratches revealed the information.
Bratches stated that he is working with F1 boss Ross Brawn to finalise the 2018 calendar. He also confirmed that the calendar would comprise of 21 races with France and Germany rejoining.
From the 2019 season, Formula One aims to add more races to the calendar to re-establish the championship in the European markets. The sport also wants to expand its reach in United States, Asia, and Latin America.
Speaking to Motorsport, Bratches said, "We want to work in partnership with our teams in terms of determining where we go."
Bratches added, "But our view is that we'd like to go above 21 and we want to be a little bit more proactive and go on the offensive in terms of the markets where we go."
Bratches stated that he had got an economic impact study in the marketplace to understand the advantages of bringing Formula One to a country or, a city. So they are identifying the optimal regions.
Bratches further said, "So as we start identifying an optimal calendar in optimal regions, we can go down and sit with cities and make our case as opposed to what has been a little bit more reactive to bids coming in."
He also stated that going beyond the 21 races per year will be a tough ask both physically and economically. He said that working closely with the teams and partners will help to finalise an optimum calendar.
