We already know that the Government of India plans to shift to pure electric vehicles by 2030. Now, the government has come up with a solution to ease the charging process in the country.

Yes, the Government of India will allow digital payment options such as BHIM app and Bharat QR code for charging of electric vehicles.

To ease the charging process of electric vehicles, the government has accepted suggestions from the Committee for Standardisation of the Protocol for Charging Infrastructure. The committee has also made several points to improve the charging infrastructure in India.

In its report, the committee has urged for uniform standards for electric vehicle charging stations in India. The new standards for EV charging stations will enable vehicles of all models from different manufacturers to be charged at any stations across the country.

    The report said, "The customers need to be billed for the charging and payment needs to be made. There are multiple options, including debiting the user's account based on VIN (vehicle identification number)."

    The panel has also recommended that the metering should be done as per units consumed by a customer for charging each electric vehicle and along with a grid responsive bill. After charging stops, the connector will be released only after the payment receipt or acknowledgement is received.

    The experts also suggested to set up massive charging infrastructure for electric vehicles as the government is planning to go all-electric to curb the increasing pollution in the country. The charging stations are the primary requirement as several automakers are developing EVs for the Indian market.

    The government is pushing the use of electric vehicles in India, but, to support the initiative, there is no proper charging infrastructure. Now, the government has accepted the suggestions from the expert panel and is expected to implement the recommended points. We expect the government to be aggressive in setting up charging stations in the country.
