Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Export Sales Hits A Significant Milestone
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) exported 10,000 trucks achieving a significant milestone.
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) announced that it has achieved a milestone of exporting 10,000 trucks from the country.
The 10,000th export truck rolled onto the ship at Kamarajar Port, near Chennai. A proud moment for the company indeed as well as for India in its 'Make in India' campaign.
The milestone truck which is a Mercedes-Benz 40-ton heavy- duty tractor is for a customer in Indonesia and is part of a batch of about 250 trucks being shipped to various markets in South-East Asia.
The export range of DICV is manufactured on the same production lines as its domestic BharatBenz portfolio according to global Daimler standards. The product range includes medium-duty (9-16 tonnes) and heavy-duty (16-49 tonnes) trucks.
The trucks by DICV are developed and meticulously tested to meet the distinct requirements of the target markets in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
They are opening new growth possibilities for Daimler Trucks - the world's leading truck manufacturer with a global reach. Apart from fully built trucks, the company has already exported more than 1,000 bus chassis built at its bus plant and is increasing volumes of its Mercedes-Benz school bus which has been launched in the Middle East.
DICV has also been exporting FUSO truck CKD kits to Kenya for local assembly by a FUSO partner in Kenya since March 2016, and to Daimler Truck's production plant in East London/ South Africa, where local assembly began in May 2017.
Speaking on the occasion, Marc Llistosella, President and CEO of MFTBC and Head of Daimler Trucks Asia, said that exports of 10,000 trucks are only a beginning. The company is leveraging additional potentials in growth markets with reliable, efficient, high-quality trucks produced at their Indian manufacturing plant.
He added that there would be continuous significant growth in this business for their FUSO and Mercedes-Benz brands.
Erich Nesselhauf, Managing Director and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said, "Our exports business has been developing extremely well. Since the launch in 2013, we have doubled our figures each year, and we aim for further significant growth as we will expand to serve more than 40 markets on three continents by the end of the year."
