Maruti Suzuki has ended the production of current-gen Swift hatchback.
Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the new 2018 Swift in India. Now, the automaker has ended the production of current-gen Swift.
TeamBHP has got hold of an image from the manufacturing facility, which shows the last current-gen Swift rolled onto the production line on December 23, 2017.
From the image, it looks like the final unit of current-gen Swift has just finished the sheet metal welding and assembly. Launched back in 2005, the Maruti Swift soon became one of the successful cars in the Indian market. By 2015, Maruti Suzuki had retailed 13 lakh units of the hatchback. In 2005, Maruti offered the hatchback with a 1.3-litre petrol engine, and in 2007 a new 1.3-litre diesel engine was introduced.
Due to BS-IV emission norms, in 2010, Maruti Suzuki replaced the 1.3-litre petrol engine with a new 1.2-litre unit. In 2011, the Indian automaker launched the second-gen Swift in India, and it was followed by a facelifted version in 2014.
Now, Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce the third-generation Swift in India in 2018 with a completely overhauled exterior design and new features. The hatchback has been already spotted in India during a TVC shoot.
The new 2018 Swift comes with an all-new design with revamped front and rear profile. The new hatchback is based on the HEARTECT platform which is lighter as compared to the current-gen model. The interior also gets its share of updates and will feature upmarket design.
The new 2018 Swift is expected to draw power from the existing 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine producing 82bhp and 74bhp respectively. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual or an optional 5-speed AMT gearbox.
