Car Dealers In Trouble For Overcharging Spareparts in Kochi
The Metrology Department has charged three car dealers-cum-service centres for overcharging spareparts to customers.
Car dealers have been in the news before for overcharging their customers for spare parts. The latest is of three dealerships in Kochi, Kerala, who were caught red-handed by the Metrology Department.

The department conducted an inspection at three dealerships which also took care of servicing the cars. Cases have been registered against them for selling spare parts without an MRP tag on them.

The dealerships under the gun are Rajasree Motors and Peninsular Honda in Vytilla and Pinnacle Hyundai in Thrissur. The inspection was conducted after receiving complaints about parts being overcharged.

One of the officers from the Metrology Department said, "As checking the price of each spare part is a time-consuming process, we could only check the stock of a limited number of dealers. In the coming days, checking will be conducted at car dealers' centres providing service."

The service team from Rajasree Motors, the authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership told The New Indian Express, "The spare parts checked by the Legal Metrology Department were last year's stock. The company hiked the price from January 2017. But, we give up to 40 per cent price discount on these spare parts. In fact, they are being sold at a price lower than MRP."

An Executive from Peninsular Honda said, "The team checked all the spare parts and found two MRP tags in one of the boxes. During price revision, the manufacturers provide us with the price stickers. We have checked with our legal cell about the matter."
