BMW Designworks And Shell Collaborate For Hydrogen Fuel Technology
BMW Designworks and Shell have designed a new hydrogen fuel dispenser that was launched during the Hannover Fair.
BMW Designworks, a subsidiary of the BMW Group, along with Shell Lubricants have worked towards the development of an innovative hydrogen dispenser to improve the refuelling experience.

Hydrogen-powered vehicles have become the future of mobility, and the new dispenser design is expected to create a better experience for drivers with hydrogen cars. The new dispenser was launched during the Hannover Fair in Germany a week ago.

The BMW Designworks was commissioned by Shell to design the new hydrogen dispenser, and in turn, Designworks approached the project applying BMW's research and design process.

Sonja Schiefer, Director of the Munich Studio of Designworks, said, "Next to enabling product innovation, one of the most important benefits of the Fixstern process, is its power to create commitment for a common goal by providing a tangible vision that multiple project partners can work towards."

Hydrogen dispensers that are in use currently are based on those used for conventional fuel. The new dispenser design is clean, with visible mechanical parts. The user will experience a light guidance system, an information display, and an innovative nozzle for refuelling.

The light concept provides the user with details such as the occupancy of the dispenser and remaining time left to fill up. It also allows users to keep track of their refuelling time and price. There is also a screen integrated with the nozzle, helping the user refuel.
