2017 BMW 2 Series Facelift Revealed Ahead Of Launch

The revised BMW 2 Series received LED headlights and tail lights which now come standard; interior changes are also present and four-wheel drive to supplement more powerful engines.

BMW has revealed lightly facelifted versions of the 2-Series Coupe and 2-Series Cabriolet ahead of its global launch for the mechanical identical rear-wheel drive siblings later this year.

The slight mid-cycle updates to the smallest BMW sports car is in line with the Bavarian company's strategy of making constant, incremental revisions to its model lines.

Among the minor exterior upgrades to BMW's entry-level two-door models is a revised front bumper with reshaped air ducts, standard bi-LED headlamps and tail lamps with an altered lens graphic and new alloy wheels varying in diameter from 16- to 18-inches.

As for the interiors, the 2-Series Coupe and 2-Series Cabriolet adopt a slightly remodelled dashboard with revised black panel instruments, redesigned air vents, new high gloss trim within the centre console, a sliding cover for the cup holders.

Additionally, a new touch-operated 8.8-inch display along with updated user interface for the iDrive infotainment system.

The new BMW 2 Series also adds new driver assistance options like adaptive cruise control with stop/ go function, lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) which operates at speeds of up to 60km/h which can also detect pedestrians and motorcycles.

The powertrains remain the same as before; the petrol engines range from a 134bhp in the base 118i to 335bhp in the top of the line M240i, while the diesel engines increase from 148bhp in the 218d to 221bhp in the 225d.

Buyers can pick between a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 8-speed automatic gearbox in most models. Along with the standard rear-wheel drive, the more powerful engines can also be associated with an optional four-wheel drive XDrive system.

BMW officials suggest the prices will remain close to the existing models, which start at £23,530 (approx. Rs 19.65 lakh) for the 218i SE Coupe and rise to £35,865 (approx. 29.96 lakh) for the M240i.

There are three new colours added as options: Mediterranean Blue, Seaside Blue and Sunset Orange.
