Australian Grand Prix — Lewis Hamilton Clinches Pole Position

Lewis Hamilton has clinched pole position in the first race of Formula One 2017. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel qualified second for the race.

The Formula One 2017 is up and running, and it looks like Mercedes is continuing from where it left last season. Yes, Hamilton is on pole position for tomorrow's Australian GP race.

Hamilton also recorded the fastest time in an F1 car around the Melbourne's Albert Park circuit. He claimed pole position by just 0.268 seconds from Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel. Ferrari was quick this weekend but couldn't match the likes of Mercedes.

Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas was also quick in his Mercedes and ended the qualifying session in the third position. Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen settled for the fourth place after the end of the qualifying session.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen could only manage fifth position in the very first race of the season. Romain Grosjean produced a stunning drive to qualify his Haas in the sixth position.

Force India had a disappointing run as both the drivers failed to make it to the Q3. Mexican driver Sergio Perez had gear shift problems and qualified outside top ten in 11th position. Nico Hulkenberg qualified 12th fastest on his debut with the work's Renault team.

Both the McLaren Honda drivers struggled to post competitive times, and it looks like the troublesome team needs to do a lot of work. Fernando Alonso managed to qualify 13th fastest. His teammate Stoffel Vandoorne qualified 18th after having fuel flow problems.

Williams driver Felipe Massa will start tomorrow's race in the seventh position. Both Toro Rosso drivers Carlos Sainz, and Daniil Kvyat qualified eighth and ninth respectively. Daniel Ricciardo rounded off the top ten qualifiers after crashing in the Q1.
